Ghost
While stranded in the withering swelter of seclusion, it is not uncommon to be lead astray by the welcome musings of a passing thought. A mirage, in the desert of one’s solitude, that takes hold and becomes a fragile reality. While these mirages can be born on a whim, simply the result of a random firing of neurons, more often and more sinisterly they rise up from the past. They refuse to die, and be buried: wraiths, drawn out of the blackness and given form. Humans are haunted by their traumas, by congregations of unfeeling, unseeing, ghosts; spectres of regret.

Quixoticism
What is it about youth that allows one to dream with such great fervor? What is it that allows one to exist so vividly in the realm of the unreal? Is it merely ignorance through which the dark, potent fog of reality is pierced, revealing a universe of untapped possibility? In a society where “Survival of the Fittest” is a harsh and unbroken law, are rose-colored glasses a protective shell with which to shield the mind from crushing stress? What, then, brings about the desire, or need, to cast off our shells… and are we truly better off without them?
Justice
The blindfolded Lady Justitia, the infallible arbiter, holding her scales in perfect balance. An idol. An object of our desire, a personification of our lust for fairness. We seek it out because it is illusive, and fleeting. It would be generous to say perfect balance is rare, if not altogether a figment of human imagination. To perform a fair arbitration in a complex variable universe is a pipe dream. There are too many things to consider. No single entity, aside from the divine, could possibly cope with the sheer volume… and frighteningly enough we see that Decim is no god.
